I have often said that I was not good at English and struggled to remember English words, but I think the underlying issue is that I am not skilled at memorization. While there are likely efficient methods for memorizing, I find monotonous, mechanical study particularly challenging. This made it especially difficult for me to memorize the key characteristics needed to identify insects, as it felt similar to memorizing English vocabulary. Although I tried to capture the traits of insect families by sketching insect specimens, I ultimately had to rely on rote memorization of identification keys. As a result, this class, along with the insecticide toxicology class mentioned above, was an incredibly tough experience for me.

私はこれまでたびたび、英語が苦手だった、英単語を覚えられなかった、と述べてきましたが、要は暗記することが苦手なのだろうと思います。多分効率の良い覚え方があるのだろうと思いますが、単調な機械的な勉強があまり得意ではないのだろうと思います。なので、昆虫を同定する際に鍵となる特徴を、ただひたすら覚えていくという、英単語の暗記にも似た作業は、とても苦労しました。昆虫のファミリーの特徴を捉えようとして、昆虫標本をスケッチすることに逃げたりもしましたが、結局は同定の際のキーを覚えなければならず、上述の殺虫剤薬理学とともに、この授業も私にとってとてもつらい時間だったと思います。
