In the end, I earned a B in this class and could not achieve my goal of outperforming others. However, I remember that students often talked about simply surviving. That semester, I took two very challenging courses, Insecticide Toxicology and Insect Taxonomy, and had a tough time studying intensely while battling anxiety about whether I could make it through. At the same time, I was also conducting research on insecticide resistance. Looking back, I think I should have been satisfied just to survive without failing. It was an incredibly difficult semester, and in hindsight, I am just glad I managed to pass.

この授業も、結局評価はBであり、人よりも良い成績を得るという野心を満たすことはできませんでした。でもよく学生の間では、なんとかしてサバイブする（生き残る）ということを話題にしていたと思います。特にこのセメスターは、殺虫剤薬理学といい、昆虫分類学といい、私にとってとても大変なクラスを2つも受講してしまい、本当にサバイバルできるかどうかという不安とともに、とてもしんどい思いをしながら勉強していました。もちろんこの時にも自分の殺虫剤抵抗性の研究は同時進行で進めていました。なので、落第することなく生き抜くことができただけでも満足しなければならなかったのだろうと思います。今から思い返してみても、とてもしんどいセメスターだったなあと思います。無事にクリアすることができただけで良かったのだろうと思います。
