Deciding on an advisor
When I arrived in Delaware and visited the University of Delaware’s graduate school for the first time, I stopped by the office of the professor who had been in contact with me in Japan regarding my admission. This professor appeared to be responsible for coordinating the admission of new graduate students. He provided me with various explanations and guidance about the graduate school, and I then decided on my advisor. I believe he took into account my interest in researching insecticide resistance, probably because I had mentioned it to him beforehand. As a result, I was assigned to the laboratory of a professor conducting research on controlling the Colorado potato beetle, a major pest of potatoes.

指導教官（アドバイザー）を決める
デラウェアに到着して、デラウェア大学の大学院を初めて訪ねたときに、大学院の入学に関して日本にいた私といろいろとやり取りをして下さった教授の研究室に顔を出しました。この先生は新たに入学してきた大学院生のアレンジメントを担当されていたようですが、この先生から大学院のことについていろいろと説明やガイダンスを受け、それから指導教官をまず決定しました。殺虫剤抵抗性の研究をしたいという希望を事前に伝えていたはずですので、そのことを考慮してくださったのだろうと思いますが、私はコロラドハムシというジャガイモの大害虫の防除について研究されていた教授の研究室に配属されました。
