My stay in Delaware was fraught with challenges, including a severe setback that nearly made it impossible to maintain the beetle strains and occasional shortages of fresh potato leaves for feeding. Through this experience, I realized that conducting experiments under ideal conditions is often unattainable. Nonetheless, I overcame these difficulties by consulting previous research. In particular, when conducting insecticide bioassays, I gained valuable insights from Finney (1971), a widely cited reference on probit analysis.

デラウェア滞在中は困難が付きまとい、系統を維持できなくなりそうなほどの壊滅的な打撃を受けたり、餌となる新鮮なジャガイモ葉がなくなってしまったりといった多くのトラブルに見舞われました。満足のいく条件のもとで実験するなどということは理想に過ぎないということは、これまでの研究人生でも痛いほど味わってきましたが、この時の様々な困難も先行研究を参考にしながら乗り越えてきました。特に、殺虫試験を行う上では、プロビット解析に関する文献として一般的に引用されているFinney（1971）から多くのことを学びました。
