I also used the master status sustaining system during my final semester. By the time I submitted my master's thesis, I had fulfilled all the requirements to complete my master's degree in the Department of Entomology at the University of Delaware. I then returned to Japan in late March, just in time for the entrance ceremony at the graduate school of the University of Tsukuba. I was in a rush and did not feel very emotional at the time, but I made a point to show my grandmother, who was hospitalized, the diploma from the University of Delaware that had been sent to me in Japan. During my stay in the United States, I was not able to see her often. However, I hope she was happy to see my diploma, knowing the great lengths I went to while living far from Japan and the challenges I faced to achieve it.

私も最後のセメスターでこのマスター・ステイタス・サステイニングという制度を使い、修士論文の提出が終わった時点で、デラウェア大学昆虫学科の修士課程修了に必要なすべての要件を満たすことができ、筑波大学大学院の入学式に間に合うように、3月下旬に帰国しました。バタバタとしてしまい、あまり感慨などなかったのですが、日本に送られてきたデラウェア大学の修了証を、当時病気で入院していた祖母に見せに行きました。アメリカ滞在中は、祖母にもなかなか顔を見せることもできませんでしたが、アメリカまで行って大変な思いをして授与された修了証だっただけに、祖母も喜んでくれていたことを願うばかりです。
