In the paper on DDT resistance discussed in the previous section, I believed I had compiled all the remaining unpublished results from my research at the University of Tsukuba. I thought I would no longer be publishing on insecticide resistance. Therefore, as mentioned earlier, I shifted my focus to evolutionary genetics research and discussions on elderly care, while also helping care for my grandmother and working part-time as a caregiver at an elderly care facility to support myself. I no longer remember exactly how I came across it, but I found a paper that criticized the one I published in 2003 while I was in Edinburgh. In that paper, I had compared the intrinsic rate of natural increase between resistant and susceptible chromosome-substituted lines. The paper criticizing my research was published in an entomology journal in 2011, but I only became aware of it toward the end of 2016—five years after its publication.

前節の、DDT抵抗性に関する論文で、私が筑波大学時代に行ってきた研究の中でまとめていなかった結果はすべて論文にしたと思っていました。もう殺虫剤抵抗性については発表することもないと思い、先に述べました、高齢者介護の進化遺伝学的な研究、考察のため、祖母の介護を手伝い、また、生活費を捻出するために、さらに高齢者介護施設で介護職員のアルバイトなどをしながら、研究や勉強を続けていました。そんななか、どういういきさつで目にするようになったのかは、もうはっきりとは覚えていないのですが、私がエジンバラに滞在していた時に発表した、抵抗性と感受性の染色体置換系統の間で内的自然増加率を比較した、2003年に発表した論文が批判されている論文を目にしたのでした。私の研究を本文の中で批判していたこの論文は、2011年に昆虫学系の雑誌に発表されたものであり、私がこの論文に気が付いたのは、2016年の終わりごろでした。その論文が発表されてから、すでに5年が経過していました。
