The paper I published in 2003 was criticized in a paper published in 2011, but I only discovered this five years later, at the end of 2016. I felt uneasy about my research being criticized in that paper. However, even if I was criticized, as long as I had done what I believed to be right, I felt it was my responsibility as a researcher to refute the criticism. Therefore, I ultimately decided to contact the author of the paper. I needed to make him acknowledge that his criticism was misplaced. Determined to challenge it, I searched for the author online, found out where he was currently working, and sent him an email requesting a PDF of the paper. It turned out that he specializes in statistics and has conducted research in Japan, but when I contacted him, he was working as a researcher in Germany. My intention is not to launch personal attacks. Since I am writing a paper, not only my name but also the names of all parties involved, including myself, are publicly available. Therefore, I will only refer to information that is generally accessible here.

私が2003年に発表した論文が、2011年に発表されていた論文の中で批判されており、それをその5年後の2016年の年末に私が気付いたわけです。私の研究が批判されているという事実に、どうしたものかとモヤモヤ考えていたのですが、もし批判されたとしても、私が正しいと思うことを行ってきたのであれば、その批判に対して反論するのは研究者としての責務であると思うので、やはり、その論文の著者にコンタクトを取ってみることにしました。あなたの批判は見当違いであると認めさせなければなりません。一戦する覚悟を決めて、インターネットで著者を検索して、現在どこで勤務しているのかをつきとめ、著者にメールを送り、その論文のPDFを送ってもらうように要請しました。相手はどうも、統計学を専門としているようで、日本でも研究していたことがあったようなのですが、私がコンタクトを取ったときには、ドイツで研究職に就いていたようです。まあ、個人攻撃をすることが目的ではないですし、論文を書いている以上、本人の名前だけでなく、私を含めた当事者の名前も公に出ていることなので、一応、一般的に入手できる情報のみ、ここでは触れておくことにします。
